Are Nylon Wallets Professional?

At Allett Wallets, we create wallets using either one of two materials: either Napa Leather, which is a high end ultra thin leather used to create luxury bags and accessories, or what’s known as “ripstop nylon,” which is one of the highest quality nylon materials currently available.

Our nylon wallets are one of our most popular styles. They’re especially popular with outdoors enthusiasts. Bicyclists, hikers, joggers, and others that enjoy the outdoors find that these wallets are breathable, soft, easy to move, and so thin they do not interfere with the ability to enjoy our sports and activities. 

Still, some people worry that a nylon wallet isn’t professional enough for their work. After all, if we’re at a business meeting, paying for lunch, and take out a bright pink nylon barbie wallet made of Velcro, that might not seem that professional. Some people still associate nylon wallets with the wallets they had when they were kids, as many of those were made from nylon as well.

One thing that is important to understand is that our wallets are not your typical nylon. They are:

• Extremely durable.
• Thin and soft to the touch.
• Sharply designed with minimalist aesthetics. 
• Fully breathable.

At a glance, they are going to appear high end the moment you take it out of your pocket. There is a noticeable difference between quality nylon and crisp aesthetic design and the nylon wallets that were used when we were younger. Still, if professionalism is a deep concern, and you believe your peers are not going to get you the reaction that you’d like – yet you still know that a nylon wallet is right for you – then you will want to consider the following:

• Wallet in Standard Colors – Nylon gives you the option of adding a lot of personality to your wallet choices, with a lot of fun colors to match your character. But for those worried about professionalism, look for a black, brown, or grey nylon wallet. These colors will blend in with the traditional colors of leather wallets, and because they’re designed with a crisp appearance, most people will not notice the material.
• Keep it Slim – Our wallets are ultra-slim anyway, but if professionalism is a concern, it may be best to look at hybrid wallets and other medium sized bifold wallets. These wallets look professional at a glance and are the right size for most events. They can also carry a number of business cards if needed.

Benefits of More Than One Wallet

However, if professionalism is a concern – for example, you work in an industry where everyone in a brand name suit, dressed up to work, and where appearance is a big part of your day to day life – then you may want to consider having more than one wallet.

As wonderful – and breathable! – as our leather wallets are, they are still leather. Many people prefer to exercise and spend time outdoors using their nylon wallet. So, consider a professional leather wallet for work and then have a smaller nylon wallet for your outdoor needs. Since you have your primary leather wallet, you only need an outdoor wallet for a few cards or cash, in which case we recommend our nylon sports wallet, which is perfect for most outdoor uses, especially if you have a primary wallet for your other cards and IDs.

Either way, your wallet should be a reflection of you. You’ll find the right wallet for your needs, and when you do, professionalism is unlikely to be a concern. Plenty of nylon wallets are still considered professional, and if you’re worried, just stay away from some of the bold and vibrant colors and your choice will likely be perfect for your needs.
