What is a Better Gift for a Man Between a Sling Bag and a Hip Bag?

It wasn’t long ago where men were expected to carry every item they need in a wallet in their pocket, and women were not given any pockets and expected to carry everything in their purses. 

The problem is that we don’t carry the same items we carried 20, 30, 40 years ago. Now we need less space for cash, more space for our phone. We carry less cards on us (because of things like Apple Pay) and yet we need access to more items, like pens, which are not as easily available.

Still, it is only recently that accessories have caught up to need. Just as it doesn’t make as much sense for women to carry large purses, it’s also making less sense for men to try to fit all their items in their pockets.

As a result, small bags for men are making a big comeback. Both hip packs and sling packs are becoming more and more common not only in men’s fashion, but as a useful accessory that helps people carry more items without trying to fit as much in their pockets.

• What is Their Style? 

Step one, of course, is to try to envision which bag will best fit with their style. People that wear tighter clothes or tend to dress extra stylish tend to prefer the sling bag, as it tends not to detract from the look of the outfit – if anything, it adds to it. Hip bags are “in style,” in the sense that many men that are very into fashion find that they’re trendy right now, but tend to also fit a more specific style, such as relaxed and casual. 

• What Are They Carrying?

If they tend to carry a lot of heavy items, then they may want a hip bag. Both care very comfortable, but a sling bag is going to put that weight on a single shoulder, while the hips are able to handle more weight. People that are always on their phone or always using their wallet may find a hip bag to be a bit more convenient, as it is easier to access the items you need when you need them. Access does not require removing the bag, and a person can look into it from above and grab what they need fairly easily. 

• Are They On the Go?

Everyone has a personal preference here, but those that go hiking or bikes may find a sling pack to be a bit easier to carry. It is held in place by the shoulder, and thus doesn’t really move when a person is active. Those less active, however, may find the hip bag to be a bit better, because of the aforementioned shoulder weight.
