Which is Better, a Sling Pack or a Hip Pack?
Allett Wallets has been crafting some of the highest quality, slimmest wallets for decades. But we’re always looking for ways to improve not only in the quality of the design, but also the products that our customers need most. That is why we’re so thrilled to be able to offer two brand new accessories to help you manage the items you carry:
- Sling Pack
- Hip Pack
Although both have similarities, they are very different products for very different people. Of course, there’s no such thing as one being “better” than the other, but there are ways you can figure out if one option is going to be a better fit for your look.
First: Appearance
Both hip packs and sling packs are “in” right now from a fashion perspective, so you can’t really go wrong with either one. Most people prefer the look of a sling pack overall – especially men, although this is likely because of past hip pack fashion, back when they were called “fanny packs” and traditionally given to women. That has changed a LOT recently, as more and more men find hip packs to give them the look they’re going for, but if you’re getting one as a gift and you’re not sure what the style is of the recipient, sling packs might be a safer bet.
Second: Practicality
Like all bags, both options are highly practical. We designed them to be the perfect fit for various items, such as phones, our wallets, etc.
But there are some slight differences. If you expect to require access to your items often, then you’d probably benefit more from a hip pack. Because this puts the items right at your waist, it’s very easy to grab them frequently if you need to reach in to grab a phone, card, or cash. Sling packs require a very small amount of extra work, which is fine and not terribly difficult, but if you’re comfortable with both and looking for which one is slightly more practical, that is likely to be a hip pack.
Third: Space
This is entirely a wash. We made both products to be the right amount of space without any unnecessary fabric so that you can fit only what you need on your body with no excess. But for sling packs and hip packs from other companies, they can vary so much. Hip packs and fanny packs tend to be a bit bigger on average, but there are huge sized sling packs as well. Most people do not use up all that space, however.
Fourth: Comfort
This is also essentially a personal preference tie. Many, many people find it more generically comfortable to wear hip bags, because they don’t put much weight on the body, but they also tend to be fiddled around with more, as people try to make sure they’re in the spot that is the most comfortable.
Sling bags, on the other hand, are *slightly* less initially comfortable (though still very comfortable) but typically do not move around very much and require almost no adjustment.
What’s the Best Option?
These two bags are so similar that there is no such thing as a better or worse option. It’s entirely personal preference. Both are in fashion right now, both are comfortable, both are practical in their own way, and both fit the items you need to help make your accessories work for you.
We encourage you to take a look at the many new and exciting sling bags and hip bags that we have available, and find the one that suits your needs. Find your next bag at Allett.
