When Does a Card Holder Wallet Make Sense?
Every wallet has a purpose. You use a passport wallet to carry your passport. You use an ID wallet to carry and show your ID quickly. Wallets come in many different styles and sizes specifically for different purposes.
Card holder wallets are another type of wallet. They are also one of the smallest sizes of wallet currently available. They are only slightly larger than credit cards themselves, holding anywhere from 2 to 6 cards.
These wallets can differ significantly from other types of wallets:
- They are not really meant to hold any cash, with no cash pocket.
- They do not have an ID window. They only hold cards.
- There is essentially no space for storage.
- They are not meant to hold excess of 6 to 12 cards.
In a sense, card holder wallets are somewhat limiting. They are, as the name suggests, just card holders. But these same wallets also have many, many advantages and uses, and you may find that card holder wallets are the perfect choice for your needs.
When Are Card Holder Wallets The Right Choice?
Card holder wallets are very situational, but in the situations where these wallets are useful, they are by far the best option. As the smallest wallets, they take up the least amount of space and are the easiest to carry with you in a variety of settings. Examples of when these card wallets are the best choice include:
- Business Cards/Networking – At networking events, you need a lot of business cards, maybe a credit card and ID, but typically little else. There is no reason to carry a large wallet with you when your only goal is to hand out cards, and so a card holder wallet provides a convenient option.
- Cash Won’t Be Needed – Most people don’t even use cash anymore, and most of the other items you carry in your wallet are unnecessary. If all you need are your two main cards and an ID, with almost no chance of requiring cash, these wallets make a great choice.
- In Anywhere Besides a Pocket – Card holder wallets are great for pockets, something we’ll talk about in a moment, but if you need a place to put your cards in a purse, or in an inside jacket pocket, they can be even better. They are small enough to fit in places even smaller than a pocket very comfortably.
- For Pictures – If you’re going out and likely to take photos, a card holder wallet is less likely to make a bulge in your pants. Our wallets are so thin, it may not be possible to tell you are carrying a pocket at all.
- Storage – Card wallets are also great second wallets because, when not in use, they offer great storage. You can keep your unneeded cards inside without making a big mess or taking up a lot of space.
These days, with so little cash and so much stuff stored digitally, we don’t need to carry as much on us anymore. Yet we’ll always want to keep at least one card and at least one ID, and maybe one or two others. That combination means that you’ll always need a wallet on you, and all you need to figure out is which one offers the best size.
Often, you’ll find that the answer is a card holder wallet. While it may not have the window used by ID wallets, the size of traditional and hybrid wallets, or the dimensions of a sports wallet, these wallets are easily the one type that are going to frequently come in handy in a wide variety of settings – and is still useful even when you’re not using it as your primary wallet.
